There is One Word to describe the Qalipu First Nation: FRAUD
Qalipu Videos here:
White Newfoundlanders, according to Chief Mitchell, “believe” they are “of Aboriginal descent” is what should be scrutinized. Believing you are of Aboriginal descent does not make you Indigenous. Many of these white Newfoundlanders use their lone Indigenous ancestor for the benefits that we are entitled to as the original peoples of these lands. But I believe than many more have no Mi'kmaq ancestors.
As Cheyenne and Arapaho scholar Dr. Kim Tallbear says, “We are not your dead ancestors.” Meaning, if you have to rely on that lone ancestor from 1679 to proclaim Indigenous identity to gain some perceived benefit, what are you? A “pretendian.” That is, a person falsely claiming to be Indigenous. You do not have the lived experience or continuation of culture in your DNA. Indigenous people want to know who are your living, breathing Indigenous relatives today? Can you point us to them? These questions come from our protocol and this is a normal and valid way we connect to each other and place one another in our collective history.
Having one Indigenous ancestor in 1679 does not make you Indigenous. Claiming an Indigenous identity with that genealogy is fraud. One Oxford Dictionary definition of fraud is the “Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.” That aptly describes the 100,000 new Mi'kmaqs in Newfoundland, whose ancestors decimated the Beothuk peoples. It is my assertion that by allowing this many white Newfoundlanders create a First Nation out of thin air, and by giving them all Indian Status this is an orchestrated genocide by the white federal government, a continuation of their planned assimilation and erasure of the Indian.
any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
The Qalipu First Nation serves many purposes to the white settler nation. For the white Newfoundlanders though, it is serving as a new "Section 25." Though I left Newfoundland decades ago, while growing up there I would hear about a new Section 25 or “make work projects.” Newfoundlanders are no strangers to hard economic times and because of that, many held resentments for joining Canada. I lived through the fishery collapse. I make a correlation between the fishery collapse and this race shifting to Indigenous as a way to bring more federal dollars to Newfoundland. So, should Indigenous people be forced to pay for the Federal Government mismanagement of the fishery? That seems to be the message 20% of white Newfoundlanders are sending to us. It is impossible that 100,000 white Newfoundlanders are Indigenous.
EVIDENCE PLEASE
One overwhelming piece of evidence that these are not Indigenous people is their claim that there are 67 Mi'kmaq communities. Go to some of those places. See if you can find: Indigenous people, culture, language or Indigenous anything. You would never know because they are white towns!
Above: These are the listing of white towns that were race shifted to Mi'kmaq. This listing was on the Federal Government website. It has since been removed.
The year that my mother was born, some white bosses held a conference to figure out if Inuit were Indians. The goal was to figure out if they should let our people starve to death or feed us, cause they stopped our people from hunting and living off the land. In the end, they decided they would not let our people starve after all. There has been a white obsession to not only define us but to control all aspects of our lives. The Qalipu have no experience with any colonial genocidal crimes like Indigenous people do.
What is missing from this conversation is accountability and truth. Few in Newfoundland speak out against this mass fraud. But it is understandable as one source informed me, “I do not want my house burnt down.”
According to the Qalipu Nation website, the budget for 2023 is approximately $35 million. It is not clear if that comes from the Indian Trust Fund, Indigenous Services Canada has not responded to my questions about that. If it is so, that money comes from Indigenous resources and sale and lease of Native lands. It does not come from any tax payer money. The Federal Government still controls it even though First Nations want to control it, since it is Indigenous money. Again, the white bosses want to make all our decisions FOR US.
Qalipu First Nation was set up to apparently address those folks left out of the Conne River creation. Why not just go to Conne River and have their name added to their Band List if that is the case? But there is little evidence that these people are First Nations. They have yet to prove to the Indigenous community they are Indigenous. I propose a dna test and/or blood quantum for every white Newfoundlander who claims to be Mi'kmaq. Some allege that dna tests aren't reliable-and Qalipu words are?
How do I conclude that these are white people and not Mi'kmaq? It is easy to see. If Qalipus were First Nations people, why were none of them placed in residential schools, day schools, on reserves, or 60s or millennium scoop? How many of them are in the prison system? Indigenous people in Labrador could not escape those colonial crimes. Perhaps my mother could have escaped residential school if she had one Indigenous ancestor 8 generations ago and could hide that fact.
Further evidence to their “pretendianing,” when many Indigenous people across Turtle Island watch Qalipu Mi'kmaq pow wows, the reaction is often shock and ridicule. These are not people re-learning culture that was stolen from them, they are going to Spirit Hallowe'en and buying costumes. There is not a shred of Mi'kmaq cultural regalia in any of their ceremonies.
The sheer volume of numbers of Newfoundlanders who applied is further proof. 20% of the entire province is not Mi'kmaq (100,000+). Impossible.
Also, Chief Brendan Mitchell, instead of declaring that he would not accept the white Newfies, he wants to embrace all of them. That tells me he also lacks legitimacy.
The first Stephen Harper system was Self ID-that is just swear you "believe" you are "of Aboriginal descent" and have one Mi'kmaq ancestor prior to 1949. (That ancestor could be in 1497). No one checked to see if there was an Indigenous ancestor. The second system for Indian Status was under the Justin Trudeau regime. Also, this system had nothing to do with actual Indigenous blood or blood quantum. (No one checked if these people have Native ancestors).
Some family members have spoken out against the fraud. Below see some comments from white Newfoundlanders who are against their peoples' actions.
DNA tests and family genealogy that has been sent to me demonstrates that no Qalipu that I have been able to find ARE at least 1/8th Indigenous. I await receipt of such proof.
QALIPU FAMILY MEMBERS SPEAK OUT
There are some white Newfoundlanders who disagree with the fraud and have taken to social media to express their condemnation of their family members with Indian Status. None would give me their real names.
M. is a white settler with family who have Indian Status with the Qalipu. “It has had a very negative impact on my family. I have close relatives who race shifted and fabricated backstories.” adding, “They expected me to either go along with their lies or at least stay silent, but after speaking with Indigenous communities and friends, I decided to speak out. I'm no longer in contact with those relatives and received threats from some.” She condemns the Nation, “What these non-Indigenous Qalipu people are doing is not only cultural appropriation, it's also fraud and theft.”
F.G. is a white Newfoundlander also with family members who have Indian Status with the Qalipu states, “There is a long-standing tradition of all sorts of fraud in this province. Certainly, E.I. fraud is the best known. They (white Newfoundlanders) feel that they are justified taking from what they see as a bottomless pit. Racism may also enter into it as they think it is okay to steal from a Native. Most, but not all are completely shameless about what they're doing.”
White Newfoundlanders who have race shifted to First Nations are erasing Indigenous people. This is genocide. Perhaps the ugliest phenomenon in all this is not only have white Newfoundlanders race shifted to Mi'kmaq, some also have started identifying as Beothuk! The Beothuk went extinct because of the white invasion of Newfoundland. The sheer audacity is astounding. The lie remains: there are over 100,000 Mi'kmaqs in Newfoundland. The current population of the entire province is 521,000, which means First Nations people would make up 19% of the population, a phenomenon not reflected anywhere else in Canada. The Federal Government even placed the list of 67 Mi'kmaq communities on its website but I tweeted Marc Miller many times laughing at the assertion that these are Mi'kmaq towns. That list is now gone from the website.
The Federation of Newfoundland Indians, who helped get the Qalipu federal recognition, was a member group of the controversial Congress of Aboriginal People. Senator Patrick Brazeau was the “Chief”of the Congress of Aboriginal People and he met with Prime Minister Stephen Harper to push for Federal Government of Canada recognition. He got it, and also became a senator too. The Congress of Aboriginal People is not a Section 35 Indigenous rights entity as outlined in the Canadian Constitution.
INDIGENOUS PEOPLE SPEAK OUT
Algonquin Chief Dylan Whiteduck of Kitigan Zibi describes the Native Alliance of Quebec, a member organization with the Congress of Aboriginal People as non-Indigenous. This organization acts as an umbrella group for folks who claim to not be represented by existing Indigenous political organizations. Nunatukavut, the group that the Federal Government of Canada recently gave Aboriginal rights to as well, is being rejected by both the Inuit and the Innu Nations of Labrador. Both groups have filed a lawsuit in the white courts to strip Nunatukavut of Aboriginal rights. (It is imperative that society recognizes that both the Inuit and Innu Nations do not accept Nunatukavut as Inuit).
Chief Whiteduck has had experience with pretendians affecting his own Nation. He thinks the Federal Government is negotiating with non-Indigenous rights holding groups to, “Conquer and divide us. We have our own laws for membership though.” Though Whiteduck told me he wasn't aware of the Qalipu First Nation situation, he added that Indigenous people need to speak out against pretendians more.
Many Indigenous people are in a panic across the nation as we watch white settlers race shifting to gain access to our rights, lands and resources. Some of us have our own conspiracy theories as to why the white Federal Government is giving our rights and resources away to white settlers. Many pretendians have formed large groups that outnumber real Indigenous populations. Also, the white courts are a vehicle for many of these groups. Though many lose their cases, some are winning and that is a major concern for all Indigenous people. There is currently a class action lawsuit against the federal government by white Newfoundlanders who either were stripped of Indian Status or rejected with the new points system. They want to return to the original self ID system. If they win this lawsuit, it will open the door up to other fake groups across the nation to become Status Indians and race shift using the white court system for fraud.
Qalipu outnumber the real Indigenous people of the province. There are less than 12,000 Inuit, Innu and Conne River Mi'kmaq. They are also across Canada showing up in spaces where they do not belong. I hear stories of how a major Toronto university has Indigenous staff informally declaring that any Qalipu professors working there now have to have their works vetted by actual Indigenous people. Also, a moratorium has been declared, no more Qalipu are to be hired for any job requiring actual Indigenous lived experience.
The creation of the Qalipu First Nation took many Indigenous people by surprise. So much so, that the Grand Council of the Mi'kmaq Chiefs wrote a letter to the UN in 2013 outlining their concerns about the Qalipu stating, “These new Qalipu members we simply do not know and do not recognize as Mi'kmaq.” But since that time, much has changed. The Assembly of First Nations has not answered my questions, but they have signed them on as a legitimate First Nation that is landless.
Ojibway award-winning singer Doug Bedard, also known as Plex has this to say, “It used to be if someone claimed Indigeneity you would simply ask them, which community claims them. It seems that pretendians found a cheat code. All they need is the Federal Government to sign off on it.” Bedard recently won Songwriter of the Year with the Indigenous Hip Hop Awards. One of his songs “Red Flags” is about pretendians.
A Qalipu family took a road trip through the USA. They visited a Native American community. Even Native Americans knew that the Qalipu First Nation is not legitimate. They were sent on their way as unwelcome outsiders. Apparently, Native Americans are well-aware of the con job that is the Qalipu Nation.
More info on the Qalipu Indian Status system here.
There is much criticism mostly from white conservatives that society is too “woke.” It isn't. It is that people are learning more about the ugly truths of European Christian colonialism and Indigenous- people cannot be silenced anymore. If settler Canadians were taught the truth in schools about Canadian history, perhaps white settlers would respect Indigenous people enough to not try to erase us like their ancestors tried.
That Indian Trust Fund is appealing, yes, but it isn't for white Newfoundlanders. Qalipu First Nation, the first pretendian Nation to be officially recognized by the white Federal Government needs to be disbanded. White Newfoundlanders, hang up your tacky dollar store moccasins and put your rubber boots back on. If you search google you can find companies that sell extended private healthcare insurance too, for those extended healthcare benefits you have stolen from Indigenous people.
Maybe Chief Brendan Mitchell fights for the over 100,000 white Newfoundlanders-'cause he is fighting for his people. And I fight for mine.
